What information do I need to provide to my car insurance agent?

Whether you are requesting a car insurance quote over the phone or online, you will be asked to provide some basic information concerning your license and vehicle. In order to speed up the quote process, it is good to have the following information handy.

Your Driver’s License- you will be asked for the state and license number on your driver’s license.

Vehicle Make and Model- know the year, make and model of your vehicle

VIN- your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) can be found by looking at the dash board of your vehicle on the driver’s side or on a sticker in the driver’s side door jamb. (This should also be on your old insurance card if you have one and it’s available)

Estimated Mileage- Try to estimate the amount of mileage you put on your vehicle every year.

Your Driving Record- While your car insurance company will attain a copy of your driving record before binding your policy- they will typically just ask you if you have any violations or accidents on your record for the purpose of giving you a quick quote. Be open about any violations as you don’t want any rate change surprises when it comes time to purchase your policy.

Coverage- If you lease or finance your vehicle, your lender may require you to carry specific minimum coverage amounts on your vehicle. It’s always a good idea to know what these coverage amounts are so that you are getting an accurate quote based on these coverage amounts.

If you have any questions about, or cannot locate, any of the information above, ask your auto insurance agent.
