Cheap Auto Insurance

If price is your determining factor when it comes to selecting an insurance policy, you may be shocked when you receive your first auto insurance quote. Follow these tips in order to get cheap auto insurance for your vehicle:

Compare Auto Insurance Rates

The simplest way to receive cheap auto insurance is to actively compare rates among a number of auto insurance companies. Certain companies may offer lower rates based on your vehicle, the type of coverage you choose, the length of time you commit to being a customer or safety features added to your car. If there are items that can lower your rate, such as decreasing your total mileage or adding an anti-theft device to your car, ask your insurance company if you can receive that lower rate if you immediately make those changes. Take your time to get quotes from a number of companies and analyze each quote and coverage offer. Consider your insurance while you're purchasing your vehicle as well - a hybrid or car that has been rated safe may offer cheap auto insurance rates compared to a vehicle that is considered a liability.

Ask for Discounts

If you have found a company that offers the coverage you need but a rate that is higher than you want, it may be advantageous to ask whether you are eligible for any discounts. Discount auto insurance doesn't have to mean that you are getting lesser coverage - you may be eligible for discounts based on where you live, your driving record, or even for purchasing a multiple policies, such as life and health insurance, from the same company. Other companies offer discounts if you choose to add all of your vehicles to their insurance plan or if you add multiple persons to your policy.

Consider your Driving Record

If you've recently been in an accident or had multiple claims, most insurance companies won't be able to offer you cheap auto insurance. If you haven't been an accident or received a traffic violation in over a year, ask your auto insurance company whether you are eligible for lower rates. If you do have a troubled driving record, consider taking a driving course that teaches you the basics, then present your certification of completion to your insurance company - they may be able to work with if you show that you are taking steps to being a safer driver.

Select the Lowest Coverage

If you have researched all of the other options and still aren't able to find cheap auto insurance, consider selecting the lowest coverage that your auto insurance company offers. Find out the minimum coverage required by your state and your auto lender, then work with insurance companies to select a plan that offers that coverage. You can also select a higher deductible in order to lower your premiums. If you do happen to get in an accident or become a victim of theft, however, having the lowest coverage may end up costing you more out-of-pocket in the end.

Cheap auto insurance doesn't mean that you have to get the worst policy your insurance company offers. Ask for discounts, research your options, and analyze your options before choosing a policy that fits your requirements.
